CHARACTER

NAME: Frederick
AGE: No canon age is given, but he's speculated to be in his mid-to-late-twenties
CANON & CANON POINT: Fire Emblem: Awakening, post-chapter 13
RESERVATION LINK: N/A
HISTORY: His wiki page

PERSONALITY: Stiff in both personality and posture, Frederick is one of the first characters the player meets in Awakening. He is a knight of the realm, the deputy of Chrom's band of Shepherds, and the self-appointed guardian of Chrom and Lissa, the royal siblings of Ylisse. Despite the numerous responsibilities heaped upon his shoulders, he carries himself with solemn resolve, and methodically works his way through all his duties with precision and care regardless of whether there are ten tasks or a hundred demanding his attention.

As a knight, Frederick believes firmly in the traditional mores of honor and chivalry, and it's these principles that form the core of who he is. He is polite to strangers, considerate around women, and holds himself on equal ground with those around him, never once boasting of his connections to the royalty of Ylisse or his experience as a veteran soldier. Despite his competence on the battlefield, he does not actively advocate for battle and war, preferring the joy and safety of peacetime. Likely this is due to his time spent with Emmeryn, the Exalt of Ylisse, and the years he spent watching her bring peace back to the halidom after countless years of bloody battle. Still, he is unafraid to kill if he must, though only when he believes it to be justified and right. Killing in defense is one thing, slaughtering women and children just because is quite another. On a finer level, he is careful never to curse in polite company and always respectful of the careful boundaries between men and women, especially in the context of romance. Not that he's particularly the romantic sort: in his S support with Lissa, he reveals that he never once caught onto her feelings for him, and also admits that he considered drafting up twelve different ways of confessing his feelings for her. When it comes to romance, he is methodical and deliberate rather than wholly impulsive.

Around his follow Shepherds, Frederick takes on the role of advisor and teacher, often setting time aside to practice moves or participate in a bout of sparring. During these lessons he is always patient and forgiving, careful to word his advice in ways that are encouraging rather than belittling. In his support with Sumia, he never once loses his temper with her despite the sheer number of blunders she finds herself repeatedly tripping into, and manages to find something to praise her over in the form of her consideration for others. Of course, he is still a stern taskmaster underneath it all, ready to follow up with a recruit if they miss a training session or three, and his patience only goes so far when he's faced with someone who simply doesn't care. Frederick's calm demeanor breaks down rather quickly in his support with Henry, when Henry continues to ignore his requests and dilly-dally the day away, and Frederick goes so far as to physically force Henry into training with him. It all works out in the end, with Frederick nearly bursting into tears when Henry finally admits to beginning to enjoy training.

However, it is not until the subject of Chrom is broached that Frederick truly displays the extent of his devotion. In fact, when it comes to Chrom, Frederick's devotion borders on the obsessive, so much so that it's become a topic of gossip amongst the Shepherds, many of whom find Frederick's intense behavior more than a little strange. It's all with good reason: this is a man who wears a suit underneath his armor lest he need to attend to his lord immediately, and believes the best way to raise troop morale is by putting up posters of a decidedly naked Chrom all around camp. He's immediately chastised by Chrom of course, but admits that he would rather risk Chrom's embarrassment that forsake his duty, which just goes to show how far he's willing to go for Chrom, oftentimes to Chrom's chagrin. It's a point of great humor for Lissa, a point of extreme embarrassment for Chrom, and possibly one of Frederick's biggest flaws in his otherwise fairly reasonable personal makeup. However, he is not completely useless when separated from Chrom, and not always wholly deferential to Chrom. His sharp senses and cautious demeanor (earning him the title of "Frederick the Wary") are a complement to Chrom's more impulsive and reckless behaviors, and are sure to serve him well during his time in the game.

ABILITIES/SKILLS: Despite his lack of supernatural ability, Frederick is still a force to be reckoned with. His time serving in Ylisse's army, first as a royal knight and then later as Chrom's personal deputy of the Shepherds, has left him very handy with a wide range of weapons, including axes, swords, and lances, and he's an excellent soldier both on the field and off.

He's also quite the talented butler, able to rise before the sun to make an excellent cup of tea, embroider and mend small articles of clothing, and polish all the silverware, all before his lord awakens. But please don't ever call him a steward.

INVENTORY/COMPANIONS:
- A lance from home
- His armor
- A couple of loose pebbles in his pocket
- A folded up poster of Chrom, wrinkled at the edges
- A sewing kit
- A handkerchief, folded
- A few carefully wrapped tea bags and a tea spoon
- His horse, if permissible, otherwise he'll find an equine companion in-game

FACTION CHOICE: Moon Temple

REASON: Frederick is the frequently the voice of reason in the party, to complement both Lissa and Chrom who are more keen on following their emotions and their hearts. He's highly observant to detail, always careful to make necessary preparations and precautions before every major event, and prefers relying on the facts and observations available to him (especially in situations that might prove to be dangerous for his royal wards). He's very much a realist and a pragmatist, and if being prepared means he himself has to go check every weapon and every possible route of travel then in Naga's name he'll do it. And does.

TATTOO: First quarter moon, on his right shoulder blade
